Missing SC 6-year-old apparently slipped, drowned

Crews searched for a missing South Carolina boy for hours before finding his body in water near his house.

PICKENS CO., S.C. (WSPA) – Pickens County sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and others were searching for a little boy who went missing earlier today.

The 6-year-old’s body was found in water, according to our crew on the scene.

Deputies say they think he slipped and fell into the water.

Pickens County Sheriff Creed Hashe said several agencies joined in the search for the boy.

They had been searching since about 5:30 p.m.

The 6-year-old was playing outside a home on Midway Road before when he wandered off, Hashe said.

“He had gone outside to play and after a short period of time the mother went out to look for him and couldn’t find him,” Hashe said.

The boy, who answers to Benjamin, was last seen wearing a green shirt and camouflage shorts.

Deputies don’t suspect foul play, such as an abduction, Hashe said.

Crews searched on land and water for the child.
