RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A new nonprofit restaurant in downtown Raleigh will serve up meals they say are for the common good.
Carroll’s Kitchen will be opening up later this month on Martin Street.
Most of its employees will be women working to get back on their feet after being homeless. Carroll’s Kitchen will also work with other organizations to help provide employees with affordable housing, job training and life skills.
“We realized that single women were one of the most under-served and one of the fastest-growing populations and we wanted to help fill the gap there,” said co-founder Jim Freeze.
Freeze and co-founder Vicky Ismail said once Carroll’s Kitchen is up and running they hope to expand the operation.
“We definitely have plans to open more restaurants and more food establishments around the Triangle to continue to grow,” said Freeze.
Carroll’s Kitchen is participating in First Friday in Raleigh on Sept. 2. Those interested in stopping by, learning more about their cause and sampling their food will have the opportunity Friday evening.
