FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A woman was seriously injured and later died following a motorcycle crash Saturday night., Fayetteville police said.
The incident happened at 9:33 p.m. on N. Reilly Road near Cissna Drive, police said.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a motorcycle was traveling outbound on N. Reilly Road when the driver lost control of the motorcycle, and crashed,” police said.
Police identified the driver as Melanie Lewis Orr, 39, of Fort Bragg.
She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and was in critical condition before she died from her injuries.
As of 6 a.m. Sunday, both directions of travel on N. Reilly Road are closed from Morganton Road to Cliffbourne Drive.
All vehicle traffic is currently being diverted and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes, police said.
The police department’s traffic unit is investigating the crash.
