ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — A man’s body was found in a retaining pond on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mount, police say.

Fredrick Evans, a 50-year-old man, was found around 2:50 p.m. in the pond that is between an Outback Steakhouse and Residence Inn on Gateway Blvd., said Lt. Charles Williams with Rocky Mount Police.

The case is a suspicious death, Williams said, but police are not suspecting it to be a homicide.

Police say the pond is not in an area where people would walk and is between two parking lots. An image from Google maps of the pond showed fencing completely around it.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death, William said.
