RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – More than a week after a devastating earthquake hit Italy, a local Italian restaurant is doing its part to help.
Dino’s Capri restaurant opened early Sunday to hold a 5 hour fundraising event with the triangle’s “Sons of Italy.”
For a $10 donation, patrons were served a pasta dish that originated from Amatrice, a town affected by the earthquake.
An additional $5 donation would give patrons a glass of wine.
Charlotte officials with the Italian consulate were also on hand to support the event.
Organizers say they’re impressed with how the local community has come together to help those in need.
“Of course you feel very bad and we all start talking among ourselves and decided to do this event. Everyone participated with enthusiasm and here we are,” said Dino Pinelli, owner of Capri and long-time restaurateur. “You do what you can and hope the world is good and everybody do their part.”
All proceeds from Sunday’s fundraiser will go to the Italian Red Cross.
