LILLINGTON, N.C. (WNCN) – The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man and charged him with second-degree murder after a man was found lying dead in the middle of a Lillington road Saturday night.
The sheriff’s office received a call just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday in reference to a person believed to be dead in the roadway inside a mobile home park on Prairie Drive.
Authorities arrived on scene shortly after the call came in and determined that the victim, Rick Allen McNeil, 56, of Lillington, had suffered severe head trauma, was not breathing and was unresponsive. The deputy who arrived first on scene began CPR until EMS arrived, authorities said. McNeil was declared dead by EMS.
The sheriff’s office investigation resulted in the arrest of Kent Lamont Cameron, 36. He has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held in the Harnett County Detention Center without bond.
The incident occurred in the roadway in front of the victim’s residence at 81 Prairie Drive.
The sheriff’s office said they have not reached a definite conclusion regarding the motive for the crime. The incident is still under investigation.
