RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A single-vehicle wreck in Raleigh left one person with serious injuries Monday morning, according to the Raleigh Police Department.
Police said the accident happened shortly before 4 a.m.
The crash caused the ramp leading from southbound Capital Boulevard to Interstate 440 west to close for approximately three hours. The ramp reopened just after 7 a.m.
The person driving the vehicle has been identified as 24-year old Ricky Gonzalez-Cardona.
He was transported to WakeMed by EMS with serious injuries, according to police.
Police said he was driving on the I-440 westbound ramp towards Wake Forest Road from Capitol Boulevard when he spun to the right, over-corrected and veered to the left of the road. The vehicle came to a stop after it struck a guardrail at approximately 50 mph, according to the police report.
According to the report, police suspected alcohol or drugs to be in Gonzalez-Cardona’s system.
At the time of the incident, police say he was traveling 58 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.
