FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – An assistant chief with the Fayetteville Police Department has been named interim police chief, the City said Wednesday.
Anthony Kelly will being serving as interim chief Sept. 30 after serving as assistant chief since January 2015.
Interim City Manager Doug Hewett announced the move.
“Interim Chief Kelly has shown exceptional leadership as an Assistant Chief, overseeing the Patrol Bureau and nearly 280 sworn officers and 16 non-sworn employees,” Hewett said.
Kelly, a Fayetteville State University graduate, has 22 years of law enforcement experience.
On August 23, Chief Harold Medlock announced his retirement.
Medlock said several things led up to his decision including a shoulder injury for more than a year.
