School bus gutted by fire in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A Cumberland County school bus caught fire in Fayetteville on Wednesday afternoon, fire officials say.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Bingham Drive and Bailey Lake Road, Fayetteville Fire officials wrote in an email.

“Upon the fire department’s arrival, crew’s found heavy fire showing from a school bus,” fire officials said. “Crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly and report no injuries.”

All 15 children aboard were safely evacuated from the bus before fire crews arrived.  The bus was from Seventy-First Classical Middle School In Fayetteville.

Fire officials said motorists should expect traffic delays in the area.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
