Downtown Raleigh intersection closed at least 1 week for utilities work

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The intersection of Blount Street and South Street in Raleigh will remain closed to traffic until Sept. 23 for utilities work, according to the City of Raleigh.

Crew members will replace a sanitary sewer manhole and a 16-inch water main.

Officials say traffic is being detoured west to Lenoir Street, south on Salisbury Street, east on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and back to Blount Street.

Motorists may also use the following alternate routes:

  • Edenton Street west to South Dawson to Western Boulevard; or
  • East Cabarrus Street east to South Bloodworth Street to Western Boulevard.
