BURLINGTON, N.C. (WFMY) – Burlington patrol officers stumbled upon 97 bags of a powdery substance Wednesday afternoon, just lying on the ground.
According to police, they found it at Gus’s Drive-In, located at 525 Chapel Hill Road.
During initial testing, the substance only tested positive for fentanyl, but police are sending it to get tested for heroin.
Police said that they believe people are cutting heroin with fentanyl to get a stronger high.
This is at least the second time that bags of drugs have been found on a Burlington street this month.
Burlington Police said a white powder found on a neighborhood street on Sept. 1 was fentanyl-laced heroin.
Police said that bag had a street value of $40,000. Police have not said how much the 97 bags found Wednesday are worth.
