SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WNCN) – The Town of Spring Lake honored prisoners of war on Friday, as well as soldiers killed in the Vietnam War.
Dozens gathered at Veteran’s Park as the Town dedicated a monument to Vietnam veterans born and raised in Spring Lake who were killed in the war.
“We wanted to do it this year because of the importance of it to the local community, but also we wanted to tie in the dedication of our Vietnam monument just because there is so much connectivity between the POW /MIA effort and the Vietnam War,” said Tad Davis, Spring Lake’s town manager.
Town leaders named the monument “Sons of Spring Lake” and said they want to ensure Vietnam veterans always feel appreciated.
“I just can’t express in words the meaningfulness of this effort and how it’s done a lot of good things for the families and citizens that are here,” Davis said.
The Town also honored those who were POWs or went missing in action.
Friday is National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
