CLAYTON, N.C (WNCN) – Activities ran smoothly Saturday, even after a young man plowed through the Clayton Harvest and Music Festival site overnight.
Authorities say Matthew Gilbert, 18, crashed through a barricade on Fayetteville Street, hitting three people with his vehicle.
Officials tell CBS North Carolina the victims were taken to a nearby Wake Med Hospital for treatment and are okay.
Saturday afternoon, the scene had cleared as thousands packed the streets of downtown Clayton for the festival.
The fun included a live performance from a local school band, the BBQ contest, plus shopping at the booths of local vendors.
Area residents and organizations say the event is a good time for them to meet their neighbors and enjoy each other’s company.
“We are loving today’s activities,” said Vera Broadus, of Clayton’s Stronger Tower Christian Fellowship Church. “We’ve lived here for a while and so we know a lot of people in the community. It’s a great day. It’s hot. Come out, fellowship with us.”
The festival wraps up on Sunday.
