Sharks struck beachgoers three times on Sunday in New Smyrna Beach.
All of the shark bites occurred in the same area just south of the New Smyrna Jetty.
The first bite happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. A 43-year-old man from Longwood was bitten on the lower leg while surfing.
Despite suffering what officials called “significant lacerations,” the man is expected to survive.
Less than 30 minutes later, a 36-year-old Miami man was bitten on both hands while surfing. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, authorities said.
The third bite happened just before 1 p.m. A 16-year-old surfer was bitten on his thigh. His injuries were described as minor.
