GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – The Goldsboro woman charged after her mother’s body was found in a freezer sold at a yard sale was in court Monday.

56-year-old Marcella Jean Lee received a court-appointed attorney.

Police caught up with Lee on Thursday in Carolina Beach, which is about 100 miles south of Goldsboro. They’d been looking for her for months on a felony charge of failure to report a death.

An autopsy in June found no signs of foul play in the death of 75-year-old Arma Roush, who lived with Lee and was last seen in 2015.

Police said a neighbor bought Lee’s freezer for $30 in early May. The freezer was taped shut and Lee told the buyer that her friends would collect the contents.

The buyer later opened the freezer, finding the dead body.

Her next court date is scheduled for October 3.
