DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A grand jury has indicted the Durham mother whose 3-year-old daughter was found dead in a van on charges of manslaughter and felony child abuse.
The grand jury returned the indictment Monday according to a document from the court system. Rocio Murillo-Estrada had earlier been arrested and charged by police. The indictment is the next step in the legal process.
At an Aug. 31 press conference Murillo-Estrada said her daughter’s death was an accident.
“It was an accident. I love my daughter,” Murillo-Estrada said through an interpreter. “I love my daughter. A mother would not like to kill her children.”
Murillo-Estrada is due in court Sept. 27.
