CASTLE HAYNE, N.C. (WECT) — A Castle Hayne man is accused of intentionally letting eight puppies starve to death.
The puppies’ mother was also starved, however, she is still alive.
According to arrest warrants, Jonathon Wade Tyler, 26, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of felony kill animal by starvation.
Tyler is accused of failing to provide the coonhound puppies with access to their nursing mother, as well as food, water, and veterinary care which resulted in the deaths of the dogs.
Warrants stated that the puppies were 1-2 months old and were sick at the time. All eight puppies died.
According to a New Hanover County Sheriff’s spokesman, the mother is recovering in Pender County. She was listed in “good condition” at last check.
Tyler was released from the New Hanover County Jail after posting an $8,000 bond.
