Durham police search for suspect in Sept. 20 shooting

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Durham police have arrested one of two suspects wanted in connection with two separate shootings from August and September.

Police sent two press releases Friday regarding their attempts to locate Akeem Rashad Lassiter, 23, and Lamonte Nathaniel Colbert.

Lassiter was wanted for a shooting that occurred Aug. 31 in the 2900 block of Rochelle Street. According to police, they responded to a shooting call just after 1:20 a.m. and found a 36-year-old man who had been shot. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Lassiter was arrested Friday on Melbourne Street. He was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Police are still trying to locate Colbert, who is wanted in a Sept. 20 shooting that injured a 14-year-old girl and her mother.

Officers responded to a shooting call just after midnight on Sept. 20 in the 700 block of Massey Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found two victims – a 14-year-old girl and her 37-year-old mother.

The victims told police that shots had been fired at them through the front door of the house. The teen girl was shot in the leg and her mother suffered a graze wound.

Colbert is wanted on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling.
