Cyclist injured in Chapel Hill hit-and-run; police seeking witnesses

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Chapel Hill police are looking for witnesses after a cyclist was injured in a hit-and-run Sunday afternoon on Hillsborough Street.

According to police, the cyclist was traveling north on Hillsborough Street near Bolinwood Drive when they were hit by a driver who was attempting to pass. The suspect struck the victim and left the scene without stopping.

A witness told police that the suspect vehicle was a light-colored, small SUV. The suspect’s SUV may have damage to the front right or right side of the vehicle.

The victim was transported to UNC Hospitals. They’re not being identified by police.

Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who saw the crash or stopped at the scene of the crash.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is encouraged to call either the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.

Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous. The caller may be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,000 for information that leads to arrest.
