RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — More than 50 Raleigh-area small business owners called on the state Monday to end gerrymandering.
A new group calling itself North Carolina Business Leaders for Accountability says the practice is hurting the state.
The bipartisan organization argues House Bill 2 passed only because of gerrymandering. The law, they maintain, is hurting the state.
“When you don’t have big office tenants or national tenants moving it affects everybody,” said David Meeker of Trophy Brewing. “Every small business on the street is affected when you have less customers.”
The group is aligned with Common Cause North Carolina, which wants a nonpartisan panel to draw legislative districts, rather than the party in power.
