ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – A Tennessee sheriff’s deputy was arrested in Asheville after police say he went there for a sexual encounter with a minor.
James Eugene Patty, Jr., 48, of Maryville, Tennessee was arrested and charged with soliciting child by computer.
Asheville Police say Patty, a deputy for the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, traveled from Maryville to Asheville to have sex with a minor girl.
The North Carolina SBI and Asheville Police arrested Patty before he could make physical contact with the minor, they say.
The Boone Police Department and Blount County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation by the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Patty is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
