HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WNCN) — From the witness stand, friends on Friday continued to recount the hours that led up to a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 85.
Chandler Kania, a former UNC student, is facing murder charges in the case.
One of Kania’s best friends, Case Aldridge, read texts from day before crash, including one showing that Kania asked him to get “[messed] up” with him the night of the crash.
Aldridge also recalled a heated argument the two had had before Kania drove off.
“The only thing I remember specifically is that Chandler said something that I felt like wouldn’t normally come out of his mouth, and it shocked me enough to where I stopped, I just stopped walking and I was stunned for a minute and then I walked away,” Case Aldridge, a close friend of Kania, recalled.
Aditya Shah, another friend, recalled trying to keep Chandler Kania from driving shortly before he took the wheel on the night of the deadly crash. The friend tried to tackle Kania and take his keys, but failed. Kanie slapped his hand away and picked him up and threw him to the ground, the friend testified.
Another friend said he drove around looking for Kania after he drove off.
