2 die in submerged vehicle in NC as Hurricane Matthew impacts state


CLARKTON, N.C. (WECT) — Officials with Bladen County Emergency Services confirmed two men died in a submerged vehicle in Clarkton Saturday.

The incident took place on Rosindale Road around 12:30 p.m.

According to Matt Hardee with the State Highway Patrol, Shawn Dell Kemp, 44, and Juwan Rolando McCoy, 22, both of the Clarkton area, died when their vehicle was overtaken by flooding waters when a huge section of Rosindale Road washed away. They were both passengers in the vehicle.

The driver managed to escape the vehicle but his two passengers didn’t.

A large wrecker was called to pull the car from the water.
