CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer shot and injured an armed man in south Charlotte Wednesday morning.
It happened around 1:40 a.m. in the Days Inn parking lot on E. Woodlawn Road. An officer pulled into the parking lot after hearing multiple gunshots coming from the area. That’s when the officer got out of her vehicle and encountered a man armed with a handgun.
“This officer perceived that this subject was an imminent deadly threat at which time she fired her service weapon, striking the subject,” CMPD said.
Additional officers arrived and quickly provided medical assistance to the person shot by applying a tourniquet, officials said.
Emergency crews took the man to Carolinas Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg. He’s expected to be OK.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol, and the Internal Affairs Bureau is conducting a separate investigation.
The gun the man was carrying has been recovered, police say.
No names have been released.
