Man ejected from vehicle, critically injured in Raleigh crash

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was ejected and critically injured in a crash on Hillsborough Street Wednesday morning, Raleigh police said.

The crash happened sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. in the 6500 block of Hillsborough Street. Only one car and one person was involved in the wreck.

According to police, Phi Nguyen, 24, of Raleigh, was driving his vehicle at approximately 90 mph, twice the speed limit, when he lost control and hit a sign, tree, several parked cars, a house and then ended up in the yard of another house. The driver was ejected. The house that he hit does not have extensive damage.

According to a police report, Nguyen’s vehicle overturned and flipped over eight parked cars.

Police said he is in critical condition and Hillsborough Street was blocked off for hours.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed yet.
