High-speed chase ends before reaching NC State Fair traffic

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Two suspects are in custody after a high speed chase ended Friday night just before reaching N.C. State Fair traffic in Raleigh.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers used a PIT maneuver to crash the fleeing vehicle, preventing it from reaching the State Fair hopefuls.

The chase initiated in the Four Oaks area of Johnston County when deputies tried to stop a white SUV. The vehicle fled, making its way through Smithfield before encroaching on the State Fairgrounds on I-40 in Wake County.

The driver and passenger of the SUV fled on foot after the crash, but were detained shortly after.

Authorities have not released the identity of either suspect.

CBS North Carolina will continue to update this story as more information is available.
