Soldier stationed at Ft. Bragg shot, injured in attempted robbery

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.(WNCN) — A Ft. Bragg soldier is recovering in Womack Army Medical Center after he was shot in the leg Saturday night outside his apartment.

Fayetteville Police responded to the 300 block of Crabapple Circle at the Westover Apartment Complex at 9:05 p.m. to a report of a shooting and attempted robbery.

Officials say the victim was sitting outside his apartment when two unknown black males approached his location and began to talk to him. During the conversation, one of the suspects asked the victim for a cigarette and a beverage. The victim complied with the requests, but as he prepared to walk home, the suspects pulled out handguns and attempted to rob the victim.

As the victim was attempting to get inside his home, one of the suspects fired a handgun and shot the man in the leg.

The suspects then fled the scene.

Fayeteville Police are investigating the incident.
