WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Wilmington man who was involved in a collision with a Hoggard High School activity bus in Sampson County last Thursday has died.
According to a report from the State Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 11:20 a.m. on I-40 near Newton Grove.
Zeke Martin Sigler, 23, was traveling west on I-40 when he rear-ended the school bus as it was slowing for traffic near the on-ramp for Exit 343, according to the report.
According to an online obituary, Sigler passed away the next day at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh due to the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The school bus was heading to the State Fair in Raleigh and was carrying 18 students and two teachers. Three students and one teacher were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure and were later released.
Sigler was born in Wilmington and attended high school at Cape Fear Academy. He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees at East Carolina University. Sigler completed his undergraduate degree in three years and finished his master’s in July 2016.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Andrews Mortuary on Market Street.
