Woman using kids in Hurricane Matthew scam, SC churches fall victim

UNION, S.C. (WSPA) – The Union County sheriff is warning people of a scam going on that some have already been duped by.

The scam involves a mother seeking help after Hurricane Matthew, Union County Sheriff David Taylor said Tuesday afternoon.

Taylor says a woman with two small children, driving a burgundy van, are going to area churches claiming to be displaced by the recent hurricane.

The woman is asking for money and local churches have already fallen victim to the scam, Taylor said in a Facebook post.

If you see this person, please call 911.
