GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) – A popular Garner corn maze sustained heavy damage from Hurricane Matthew, causing its owner to lose 20 percent of his income.

Around 250 people visit Ken’s Korny Corn Maze during its 60-day run in the fall.

Owner Ken Walker said he had to shut down the two-and-a-half mile maze eight days to clean it up.

“It was me and about eight other fellas,” said Walker. “We went in and cleared out the path.”

Walker said he lost 20 percent of his income due to the closure.

“You only have four weekends in October and each means a whole lot to us,” said Walker.

Luckily, he said enough of the maze was still standing for him to finish out the fall.

Normally the corn is real thick, greener and taller.

He said usually they tower 8 feet but some are only 3 feet now.

Walker is hoping to finish the last few weeks strong to make up for that 20-percent loss.
