BELMONT, N.C. (WBTV) – A Gaston County woman is charged with murder in the stabbing death of a 61-year-old man who was a prior roommate of hers, according to police.
Iva Dawn Helms, 32, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of James William Dellinger.
The investigation began on October 15 when Lowell Police officers responded to Dellinger’s home after a 911 call from Helms. According to investigators, she said she found Dellinger deceased with an apparent knife wound.
Helms, police said, was a prior roommate of Dellinger’s and had recently been staying with him for several days.
After several interviews and consultation with the Medical Examiner’s Office, Helms was arrested at her home without incident. She is being held in the Gaston County Jail with no bond.
