SC man found guilty of setting wife on fire

SENECA, S.C. (WSPA) – A man was found guilty on all charges after setting his wife on fire after she told him she wanted to leave him.

The assault in May 2014 left his wife with third-degree burns over 70 percent of her body.

She spent nearly 18 months in a burn center.

Jacob Drotning was found guilty of attempted murder, domestic violence, arson, and malicious injury.

The jury deliberated three hours.

The Independent Mail says the victim testified their marriage was rocky and she told Drotning that she wanted to leave.

The defense argued that he was trying to start a grill and the fire was accidental.

A man that shared a cell with Drotning testified that Drotning said he had drank a lot of vodka before trying to kill his wife.
