NC high school student charged with committing sex crimes at school homecoming event

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) — A junior at South Brunswick High School was arrested after the school’s Homecoming Bonfire.

According to the Brunswick County Schools Executive Director, Jessica Swencki, Jibri Ballard, 16, was arrested after the South Brunswick High School administration received information alleging a serious incident at the bonfire.

School officials immediately took action and reached out to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an investigation.

According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Ballard is being charged with second-degree sex offense and sexual battery. Ballard was arrested and processed into the Brunswick County Detention Facility where he remains under a $100,000 bond.
