FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A SUV driver crashed into a large hole in a washed out road after going around barricades on Saturday, Fayetteville Police say.
The incident happened Saturday around 4:10 p.m. along the collapsed road on Bingham Drive near the intersection of Tiree Drive, police said in an email.
A man “drove his 2015 Nissan Rogue around the barriers blocking the roadway of Bingham Drive at the Bunce Road intersection and crashed into the collapsed roadway as a result of flooding from Hurricane Matthew two weeks ago,” police said.
Darrell Musselwhite, 68, was not seriously hurt in the crash, but he was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for evaluation, police said.
Musselwhite was charged with driving around a barricade into a safety zone.
“The Fayetteville Police Department would like to remind all motorists not to drive around any barricades that have been placed along closed roadways for your safety,” police said. “Ignoring the barricades or safety devices can result in significant injury and property damage, all of which can be avoided.”
