CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) — Police say a driver who was killed in a traffic accident in north Charlotte Friday evening had tried to purposely run over a pedestrian shortly before the crash.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Beatties Ford Road and North Hoskins Road. Officials said just before the crash, 26-year-old Ebony Little tried to strike a person after an altercation on the 4700 block of Murray Street. The pedestrian was not injured.
Investigators said Little then left the scene, heading inbound on Beatties Ford Rd at a high rate of speed before going off the road onto the sidewalk, over-correcting and losing control of the vehicle. She then went across the road and into oncoming traffic, striking a Buick Lesabre.
Little was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Lesabre, a 34-year-old man, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with minor injuries.
Police said both alcohol use and speed contributed to the wreck.
The intersection was closed for hours because of the accident, but bystanders weren’t worried about traffic trouble.
“Traffic is just not really my concern man. I just feel bad for the family. Someone just lost a loved one,” said Glenn Bush.
No further information has been released.
