DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Two Durham residents were hit by a teen driver in an SUV who then fled the scene early Sunday morning, Durham Police say.
One victim is listed in critical condition after being hit by the teen driver, who was later caught, police said.
The crash happened just before 3:45 a.m. on N.C. Highway 147 near Briggs Avenue, Durham Police said in an email.
“Two pedestrians were struck by a white 2007 GMC Yukon, driven by Elijahio Taylor Jr., 18, of Durham, who fled the scene,” police said.
Taylor was later found on Bedford Street and charges are pending, according to police
The pedestrians, Chase Etienne Tripp, 25, and J.C. Justice III, 27, both of Durham, were transported to a local hospital, police said.
Tripp is currently in critical condition and Justice is in stable condition, officials said late Sunday afternoon.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that neither speed nor alcohol were factors,” police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
