“He loved to live fully and enjoyed biking, hiking and anything active outdoors,” Markley’s obituary said. “He enjoyed sharing these passions with his wife and his children. He was an active participant in Crosspointe Church, and to charities important to him including The WHY Project.”

The deadly crash in Apex comes just days after Lori Cove was riding her bike with three others along High House Road in Cary on Monday when she was hit by a man driving a pickup truck.

Christopher Moore has been charged with two counts of felony hit-and-run.

Officials say the outlook does not look good for Cove as she remains in critical condition at WakeMed.

Another cyclist, 55-year-old Virginia Davis, was also seriously injured but is doing better and will be OK.

Cove, who works as the transportation director for the Town of Cary, is on life support and not expected to survive.
