It all started at Fayetteville’s Lewis Chapel on Raeford Road. Although many members sustained significant damage to their own homes during Matthew, that didn’t stop them from coming together to help others.

Lewis Chapel Pastor Christoppher Stackhouse said “we didn’t want to be limited by just our own, we wanted to reach out to as many people as we possibly could.”

After collecting thousands of home goods in less than a week, on Sunday Lewis Chapel members delivered the items to McDonald Pentecostal Holiness Church in Robeson County.

Marvin Hunt leads the McDonald Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He said “that’s what it’s about, people helping people, church’s coming together, touching one another, we thank God for Lewis Chapel.”

McDonald Pentecostal Holiness Church is about 15 miles south of Lumberton in Robeson County. Close to 100 people live there.

Besides several homes flooding, many families were without power for an entire week.

The aid from Lewis Chapel included three truckloads of water, toiletries, clothing and much more.

“God said he’d feed us when we’re hungry, he’d give us water when we’re thirsty, he’d give us the shelter over our head, he’ll put shoes on our feet, he’ll put clothes on our body, he’s awesome, he is an awesome God,” Goins said.
