ROBBINS, N.C. (WNCN) — A Moore County man was killed in fiery single-vehicle crash Sunday night near Robbins, the Aberdeen Times reported.
The crash happened just after 11 p.m. on Busbee Road off of N.C. Highway 705. According to emergency officials and the Aberdeen Times, the driver ran his Ford Ranger pickup off the left side of the road and slammed into a tree before the pickup burst into flames.
A person who lived in a home near the scene of the crash ran to the truck and was able to get the driver out of the vehicle before the flames spread from the engine and consumed the inside of the truck, the Aberdeen Times reported. The driver has been identified as Stoney Colon Crabtree, 25, of Stewart Road just outside Robbins.
Crabtree was declared dead at the scene by emergency crews despite the efforts by the nearby resident to save the man, according to the Aberdeen Times.
No one else was in the vehicle with Crabtree.
Busbee Road was closed to traffic in both directions for almost two hours.
Responding to the wreck were units with Westmoore Fire Department, Robbins Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, the N.C. State Medical Examiner’s Office and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
