POLKTON, N.C. (WNCN) – A man serving 26 years in prison for second-degree murder died in apparent suicide at an Anson County correctional facility, officials said.
Christopher Blackett, 25, was found unresponsive in his cell Sunday afternoon at Lanesboro Correctional Institution.
He was pronounced dead after attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Blackett was serving more than 26 years in prison after he was convicted in August 2016 of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges. He was convicted in the death of his 17-year-old Spring Lake neighbor, Vincent Carlisle II.
Blackett, originally from California, was a soldier station at Fort Bragg.
The Polkton Police Department is investigating Blackett’s death.
