GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) — Police in Gastonia are asking for information from the public after a woman was shot and killed early Saturday morning.
The shooting happened just after midnight at a home on the 900 block of Nottingham Drive, which is off Laurel Lane. Police responded to the call and found a woman who had been shot and was unresponsive inside the home.
Police have not released the victim’s name, and no one has been taken into custody.
Family members say the woman who was killed is Jacobia Lane.
They say she was the type of person who would go out of her way to help others.
“She’s someone that loves her family, loves her kids, she’s just a loving person,” said Timothy English, Lane’s brother.
This has been particularly painful for family members. Lane was in town to go to the funeral of English’s wife.
“She came up here to support me for my wife, when she just died of cancer. We all know the battle of cancer, but now we’re dealing with the battle of people with hate in their heart,” English said.
Family members gathered Saturday afternoon at the house where the shooting happened, and prayed.
As they continue to mourn, they ask the shooter, or anyone who knows the shooter, to come forward.
“You know it’s wrong for what you did. You know it’s wrong. And if you know who it is, you’re wrong for not coming forth and telling,” English said.
Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the person or persons involved. Anyone with information is asked to call Gastonia Police Detective Robert Bryson at 704-866-6702, or Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at 704-861-8000.
