CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) — A 9-year-old girl was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bike in northwest Charlotte Monday.
The incident happened just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Rozzelles Ferry Road and Dunn Commons Parkway. Officers were called to the scene and quickly determined the young girl’s injuries were potentially life-threatening.
Medic then transported the girl to Carolinas Medical Center. Her name has not been released.
Firefighters said the girl had gone to a nearby convenience store and was returning home when she was struck. They said bystanders helped the injured girl until emergency crews arrived.
“You know you’re trying to treat a small child that’s got it’s whole life ahead of it and you do everything you can to help her and render aid,” explained Chief Mike Stanford with the Cooks Community Volunteer Fire Department.
Police said the vehicle involved stayed at the scene.
Investigators have not said how the accident may have happened or if any charges will be filed.
