NC pair charged after video shows parents planning and encouraging children to fight

HUBERT, N.C. (WNCN) – A North Carolina man and woman have been charged with child abuse after they encouraged their children to fight each other, according to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.

Bobbi Gemmell, 40, of Great Neck Landing Road in Hubert and Enrico Rivera Jr., 32, of Dayrell Drive in Hubert are were arrested on Monday.

They were both charged with of felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious mental or physical injury.

Deputies spoke with social services staff, who stated they had received a report that two children were involved in a fist fight — first reported in mid-August — that was orchestrated and encouraged by their parents and guardians, officials said.

During the investigation, a video was provided to Onslow County investigators, which shows the two children in a physical altercation, with people encouraging them to do physical harm to each other, according to deputies.

Gemmell and Rivera were both given a $7,500 secured bond.
