CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Handguns were stolen during an armed robbery of a pawn store in Charlotte Wednesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.
The robbery happened at the Cash America Pawn store on the 4600 block of N. Tryon Street.
Police say that two men robbed the store at gunpoint and got away with 21 firearms. Officers say the thieves also took jewelry and a video game system. No one was injured in the robbery.
Tuanetta Wall and Terrence Wall were going to look at video games in the shop Wednesday before they discovered the shop was closed.
“What’s the need with everybody stealing so many guns now? I mean is there a shortage I don’t know about?” questioned Tuanetta Wall.
Terrence Wall had heard about other robberies at gun shops in the area. Both family members said they were shocked to hear about the situation at Cash America Pawn.
“This is like the fifth one that’s happened this month,” stated Terrence Wall. “I just think it’s crazy that they’re doing this right now.”
No further information has been released about the incident.
A sign on the front of the building says the business will be closed Thursday, but will re-open on Friday.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
