NC man charged with kicking, head-butting deputy

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) — A Shallotte man is accused of kicking and head-butting a Brunswick County deputy during a DWI arrest early Thursday morning.

According to arrest warrants, Christopher Jeffery Hammond, 31, assaulted the deputy while he was being detained and also caused damage in excess of $200 to a Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

According to warrants, Hammond was driving impaired and then left his vehicle with four children remaining inside unattended in the vicinity of Village Road.

Hammond was returning to the vehicle when law enforcement arrived.

Records state that Hammond had an alcohol concentration of .08 or more.

Hammond has been charged with:

  • Assault on a government official/employee
  • Resisting an officer
  • Injury to personal property
  • Four counts of misdemeanor child abuse
  • DWI
