RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A body was found down an embankment Friday afternoon near the intersection of Interstate 440 and Capital Boulevard in Raleigh, police confirmed.
While police haven’t identified the deceased, the body was discovered in an area where a missing person’s automobile was also found several weeks ago on a road that runs parallel to the beltline.
Detectives discovered the body while doing follow-up work on a case, officials said. The body was found in an isolated patch of kudzu-covered woods nestled between the highway and several businesses that line Appliance Court, police said.
Oct. 13, police said they were looking for assistance locating 52-year-old Anthony Martin, whose automobile was found in the 2600 block of Appliance Court. At that point, he’d been out of touch with family and friends for six weeks.
The body appeared to have been in the woods where it was found for “quite some time,” Jim Sughrue, Raleigh police spokesman, said, so officers will rely on the medical examiner’s office to make an identification.
Preliminary indications are that there was no foul play involved, but that determination isn’t yet final, police said.
