WHITEVILLE, N.C. (WECT) – Snakes, dogs and bearded dragons were removed from a Whiteville home after they appeared to be abandoned by their owner.

According to Joey Prince with Columbus County Animal Control, 14 snakes, three dogs, two bearded dragons and a frog were removed from a residence in the 500 block of Maxwell Street on Wednesday and Thursday. Prince said the animals were living in deplorable conditions with bugs and animal feces covering much of their living area.

One of the snakes and the frog were found dead.

The home’s owner said the renter moved out and left the animals.

The Whiteville Police Department is investigating the case.

Prince said the animal’s owner will face multiple charges, including felony animal cruelty for the snake and frog that died.
