RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The North Carolina gubernatorial candidates had company as they campaigned at the N.C. State football game on Saturday.

Both Republican incumbent Pat McCrory and Democratic challenger Roy Cooper were around Carter-Finley Stadium during tailgating leading up to the Boston College game.

McCrory had a high-powered guest with him – Republican vice presidential nominee and Indiana governor Mike Pence.

N.C. Attorney General Cooper had a possibly better-known guest: comedian and actor Will Ferrell.

Ferrell also had events in Durham and Carrboro as he was also campaigning for Hillary Clinton.

“I think there somethings an attitude that a single vote doesn’t matter and it actually really does especially in a state this close,” Ferrell said. “We just want to make sure that if you are sitting at home and thinking I’m not going to get out there. It’s really worth the effort. This is a critical election not only for the state of North Carolina but for the country as a whole.”

Pence, who also had his wife with him during the visit, shook hands and posed for pictures with his wife.

Pence also held a baby and signed some hats and footballs.

The two opposing candidate teams did not run into each other during the tailgating campaigning.
