GREENSBORO, N.C. — A man who shot at police with an assault rifle during a nine-hour standoff with officers has been arrested, Greensboro Police said Saturday morning.

Police arrested Vit Da Ha around 10 a.m. at the Carolina Woods Apartments off Highway 29. Police say he was wanted on multiple charges including attempted murder for a shooting that happened in High Point back in September.

About 60 people were evacuated from the apartment complex while the standoff went down. Police allowed them back in their homes once Ha was arrested.

Greensboro Police say detectives found Ha shortly before midnight on Friday at the apartment complex. Detectives tried to arrest Ha and that’s when they say he pointed a gun at officers and barricaded himself in a ground floor apartment.

Police say Ha fired his gun at officers at least three times and officers shot back twice. No officers were hurt in the gunfire.

Police say they also used tear gas about two dozen times to try to get Ha out of the apartment. Officers then used a robot to get inside the home. When the robot became disabled, officers went inside and found Ha hiding in a room in the back of the apartment.

Ha was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor wounds and to determine if he was shot, according to police.

Police say Ha has a history of arrests related to drugs and weapons dating back to 2001. He is suspected of two armed robberies that happened at Greensboro gas stations on October 25 and 26. Those robberies were at the BP on 4700 W. Market Street and the Circle K on Groometown Road.
