NC Pizza Hut worker uses own gun to kill armed robber, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) — A Pizza Hut employee in west Charlotte shot and killed a robbery suspect early Sunday morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The shooting happened in the 3200 block of Freedom Drive around 1:30 a.m.

According to CMPD, Pizza Hut was closed when three people walked in to rob the business. One of the employees reportedly fired his own handgun, fatally striking one of the suspects. He was pronounced dead on scene by MEDIC.

Police said the robbery suspect was carrying a gun when he was shot.

The two other suspects ran away and have not been arrested, according to police. Officers said the investigation is in its early stages.

No names have been released at this time.
